This year, the Champions League race in the Premier League and the latest coefficient from across Europe is likely to see changes. The next season’s Champions League will expand to 36 clubs, with Italy and Germany currently holding the top two positions and set to offer five clubs based on their league finish.
This means that England may miss out on an additional Champions League spot. In order to determine the ‘European Performance Score’, the total coefficient points attained by clubs from one league is divided by the number of representatives from that competition.
As of now, Italy is at the top with 18.428 points, followed by Germany with 16.785, and England close behind with 16.750. This indicates that the Premier League won’t have five Champions League places for the moment.
However, the situation could change depending on the results of Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and West Ham in their respective competitions. A clearer picture of the Champions League race will emerge by the end of next week as these clubs vie for spots in the semi-finals.
