Brendan Rodgers takes advantage of little-known rule to make six Celtic substitutions – Mirror Online

The match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park started with a cautious first half, as Celtic had the chance to widen the gap between them and their fierce rivals. However, in the second half, goals from Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Adam Idah secured the victory for Celtic, bolstering their hopes for the title. Despite the success, there were tense moments in the second half, with fans expressing concern over a substitution decision. Celtic made several substitutions during the match, ultimately using 17 different players, including a late appearance by James Forrest.

However, the club’s actions were in accordance with the rules and no penalty will be imposed. St. Mirren also made multiple substitutions, including a concussion substitution, prompting Celtic to make an extra change to maintain parity. Notably, three years ago, all 42 SPFL teams agreed to a rule change allowing for concussion substitutions. The rule permits a team to make a concussion substitution regardless of the number of substitutes already used, and the opposing team has the option to make an additional substitute in response.

Following the match, Celtic currently leads the SPL by four points, but Rangers still have two games in hand and therefore have control over their position in the league.
