Phil Jones speaks about Gareth Southgate’s decision to remove former Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford.

The 26-year-old has missed out on a chance to represent England at a fifth major tournament. Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes 1-2-Free, Jones explained that Marcus Rashford’s omission was the biggest decision and a tough call.

He stated that Rashford, despite an unimpressive season, possesses the ability to make a significant impact, especially in challenging games. However, Jones acknowledged the tough competition for spots in the squad and the unfortunate outcome for Rashford.

Southgate justified his decision to not include Rashford, citing the better seasons of other players in Rashford’s position as the determining factor. Jones, who is now a coach in United’s academy setup, expressed confidence in Rashford’s talent and strong mentality, predicting a comeback in the 2024-25 season.

He emphasized Rashford’s work ethic and determination to bounce back and deliver a stronger performance next season. Additionally, Jones encouraged joining the Mirror Football WhatsApp community to receive daily content and special promotions.
