Arsenal maintains pressure on Man City with Bukayo Saka securing victory over Bournemouth – 5 key points

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for the Gunners with a first-half penalty, as they dominated the game. They had 16 shots in the first half, while the Cherries managed just one, which was off target.

Saka’s penalty came just before half-time after Kai Havertz was fouled by Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers. The Cherries struggled to create clear-cut chances in the second half despite a resurgence.

Arsenal’s superior goal difference over their title rivals means that City must win both of their games in hand to overtake them. This puts Arsenal in a position where they may rely on their rivals Spurs to help them win the title.

Although Arsenal dominated possession and had numerous shots in the opening 45 minutes, they struggled to convert this dominance into clear-cut chances. This highlights the need for a new striker, with Kai Havertz playing through the middle.

Saka, known for his calm and confident penalty-taking style, has become Arsenal’s main penalty taker. Bournemouth failed to make an impact in the first half and improved after the break, but were unable to secure a penalty or a goal.

The Cherries’ performance suggested they were ready for the end of the season. A controversial decision by referee David Coote ruled out a goal for the Cherries, despite replays suggesting minimal contact on the Arsenal keeper.

VAR ultimately sided with the referee, denying the Cherries a penalty. This allowed the Arsenal keeper to maintain a clean sheet and win the golden glove award.
