Man City and Chelsea vie for young talent playing in Scottish third tier – Mirror Online

Ethan Sutherland, a player from St Mirren, is currently on loan at Alloa Athletic in Scotland’s League One. He joined Alloa in search of senior game-time at the end of the January transfer window. Despite mainly playing as a left-back, his preferred position is out on the left wing. His performances have contributed to Alloa’s solidification of a place in League One’s promotion play-off spots.

Both top-flight clubs have shown interest in the 17-year-old, who still has a year left on his contract with his parent club. Sutherland is highly rated by boss Stephen Robinson and has been earmarked for a role in the first team upon his return. Robinson emphasized Sutherland’s potential but noted that the young player needs more experience, mentality, and determination, which can be gained through playing games. In response, Sutherland expressed his satisfaction with gaining game-time at a senior level and adapting to his new team at Alloa.

He also shared his preference for playing higher up the pitch but expressed willingness to do his best if required to play left-back.
