Everton’s Beto taken off on stretcher after collision with Morgan Gibbs-White – Mirror Online

The Portuguese ace raised his thumb to supporters as he was carried off the pitch at Goodison Park. The striker had been surrounded by six members of medical staff in the aftermath of the incident as he received lengthy treatment. The 26-year-old Toffee challenged Gibbs-White in the air deep inside his own half. The pair fiercely clashed heads, prompting teammates of both players to call for medical teams to head onto the field.

Beto lay face down on the turf as Idrissa Gueye, Ashley Young, and Dwight McNeil quickly looked to assess their peer. Gibbs-White rolled away from the collision holding his head but rose to his feet first. Play was stopped for around seven minutes as Beto left the field in the 10th minute of stoppage time. Everton confirmed that Beto was ‘knocked unconscious and has been taken to hospital as a precaution’.

However, there was some good news at this early stage as he had come around and was speaking to the physios and the medical team. Everton were able to see out their 2-0 win as Beto was replaced by Youssef Chermiti. The match finished after 108 minutes, with Idrissa Gueye opening the scoring in the 29th minute and Dwight McNeil doubling their advantage in the 76th. The Toffees sit four points clear of their rivals and five points clear of the relegation zone in 16th place.
