FA issues strong statement after criticism from EFL over scrapping replays – Mirror Online

The call to remove FA Cup replays from the competition was confirmed earlier this week, prompting opposition from several clubs. The FA responded by explaining the decision-making process and expressing understanding for the concerns raised. The FA emphasized the need to strengthen the competitions while managing fewer available dates and ensuring player welfare. They highlighted changes to the Emirates FA Cup, including its return to weekend competitions for every round and securing exclusive broadcast slots in a crowded calendar.

Additionally, they mentioned an increase in the number of matches broadcast in the early rounds and the annual review of prize money for the competition. The calendar for the next season was approved by the Professional Game Board and the FA Board, with representation from various leagues and grassroots organizations. The FA acknowledged the concerns raised and promised to share more details with clubs regarding additional revenue opportunities in the early rounds. The latest decision by the FA to remove FA Cup replays is a part of ongoing alterations made to the competition, including the previous removal of replays from the fifth round onwards in the 2018/19 season.
