Premier League rejects mid-season winter break despite Jurgen Klopp’s suggestion – Mirror Online

The Premier League has decided to axe its winter break, opting to start the season later instead. This move aims to provide players with a longer rest period in the summer. As a result, the Premier League will now kick off in mid-August, allowing for a more extended summer break.

The objective is to ensure that all Premier League players have a consecutive three-week rest period during the summer. This decision was made based on expert advice from medical and technical departments, prioritizing a longer period of complete rest in the summer over a short break in the winter. Starting from the 2024/25 season, the traditional curtain raiser, the Community Shield, will be held on 10 August, the Saturday before the beginning of the Premier League season.

Clubs used to take part in warm weather training camps in locations like Dubai to prepare for the latter part of the season. However, with the Premier League and various cup competitions now going straight through from the start of the season, this practice will no longer be possible. In addition to these changes, the Premier League is launching a new WhatsApp community for its followers, offering daily Mirror Football content and special offers.
