The recent development of a cyber attack on Paris Saint-Germain has prompted a response from the Parisian police. A senior source from the Interior Ministry confirmed that officers from the BRI, part of the Paris Police Prefecture, will provide support within the Parc des Princes perimeter. Concerns have been raised following threats made by a branch of ISIS called ISIS-K based in Afghanistan. The targeted cities, including London, have been hosting games this week, and there are fears that terrorists may attempt to gain access to the Parc des Princes stadium, which has a capacity of 48,000.
The BRI was initially formed to combat violent gangs but shifted its focus to terrorist groups in 2015 after the ISIS attacks in Paris, during which 130 lives were lost and hundreds were injured. In preparation for an upcoming game, a Paris police source revealed that in addition to anti-terrorism units, there will be around 500 officers present in and around the Parc des Princes, supported by various security measures such as drones and intelligence agencies. ISIS has made alarming posts on social media targeting the upcoming PSG and Barcelona game, with one post depicting an ISIS fighter by the Parc des Princes with the message ‘Kill them’. Additionally, the Al Azaim Foundation, a media channel linked to ISIS-K, has threatened an attack on four stadiums, including the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, where Read Madrid played against Manchester City on Tuesday.
