Shaw has been a key player for England under Southgate, and his potential return to the team would provide a significant boost for the rest of the tournament. Southgate took a chance on Shaw due to UEFA’s allowance of expanded squads, which allowed England to take a risk on the left back proving his fitness. Despite training consistently with the squad in Germany, Shaw has also followed a separate fitness program managed by the medics.
