England’s final match in the tournament will determine their rank. If they win, they will secure first place. A draw will be sufficient for at least second place.
However, if England loses to Slovenia and Denmark wins against Serbia, England will end up in third place. The tournament involves 24 teams, and the top four third-placed teams from the six groups will also advance to the round-of-16 based on a separate league table. This could be determined tonight after the final matches of Group B. Spain has already qualified with six points, Italy has three points, and Albania and Croatia each have one point.
If Italy and Croatia play to a draw, only one of them can have four or more points. The third-placed team in Group B can also achieve four points if Spain unexpectedly loses to Albania. Any other outcome would mean England could advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
England’s worst-case scenario, until they can determine their fate in their next match, involves Albania winning and finishing with four points, potentially with a higher goal difference than England, and Italy finishing second with six points. In the event of an Albania win and an Italy draw, Italy would still secure second place due to their superior head-to-head record. If you don’t like our community, you can check out anytime you like.
