The team has seen participation from a number of social media personalities including Behzinga, from the Sidemen, Mark Goldbridge, Pieface (Jack McDermott) and Chunkz. Former Premier League striker Rooney has wasted little time embracing the platform and hasn’t been afraid to be the butt of jokes, often leaving his team-mates in stitches. The 38-year-old bluntly piped up to suggest: “I don’t think that was aimed at you”. Laughter started as fellow squad member Aaron Hunt added: “I don’t think that was aimed at you either Ginge.”
The team couldn’t stifle their chuckles before swiftly moving on. Rooney has previously made headlines for reportedly attending a brothel in 2004. It was claimed he slept with Gina McCarrick, then 37, and grandmother Patricia Tierney, then 48. The out-of-work manager last coached Birmingham City in the Championship but was sacked in January after just 15 matches.
Rooney has since been involved in media work and was lined up to be part of Match of the Day last weekend. Rooney revealed less than an hour before the show aired that he wouldn’t be making his first appearance after all. “Unfortunately I have sustained a painful back injury during a holiday with my family but I look forward to being part of the team in the near future. Good luck to @GaryLineker and the guys for tonight’s show and see you soon.”
