The latest possibility surrounds a site in Earl’s Court, less than two miles away from the club’s current stadium. *Mirror Football* has contacted Chelsea FC for comment on the matter. Gannon previously served as managing director of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles before joining the club in 2023.
The same publication indicates the Lillie Bridge depot is thought to be the site in question. Citing unnamed sources, The Guardian indicates the site in question could have a value of as much as £500million. Any plans to move away from the current site are also reliant on reaching an agreement with Chelsea Pitch Owners – owners of the freehold on Stamford Bridge – and that’s before any complexities with supporters’ preferences are addressed.
“The board carefully considered refurbishing the site or rebuilding part of it, and concluded that any refurbishment would require funds that the charity simply does not currently have, and would also require current residents to leave their homes,” Stoll said in a statement. The charity will retain 20 flats on the site, while residents will not be forced to move immediately. “The sale will enable Stoll to establish new properties which would provide higher quality, more sustainable housing with greatly improved grounds, accommodation and facilities, while also securing the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation and enhancing its services to veterans,” the statement continued.
