Ten Hag has included Christian Eriksen in the squad after the Dane was linked with a move away. United have named a 25-man squad for the competition, which can be supplemented by a ‘B’ list of academy players including the likes of recent debutant Toby Collyer. However, Amass, who came through Watford’s academy, needed to be registered in the main squad. According to UEFA’s rules, a player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 2003 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday, or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.
Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption. United reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League in Ten Hag’s first season in charge, falling to eventual champions Sevilla. This season is the first in which the Europa League has used its new ‘Swiss-style’ format, with a league phase replacing the group stage. United have home matches against Twente, PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, and Rangers, as well as away trips to face Porto, Fenerbahce, Viktoria Plzen, and FCSB.
