The shotstopper is set to face some stiff competition against nine other goalkeepers. The Brazilian won the inaugural Yashin Trophy in 2019, was runner-up for the award in 2022 and has twice been named in the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11.
For now, Valencia manager Ruben Baraja is pleased to have retained his services. “The club makes a great sale for the club’s economy and we continue to count on him from a sporting point of view.
He will try to have a good season and be decisive in the team,” he said. “I have always explained that in all clubs around the world, if there is a situation of a player on the market, if the club considers it appropriate, we have to adapt.

While it is easy to consider Mamardashivili as Alisson’s successor, his talent may mean he does not plan to wait long. Liverpool’s current first choice only recently committed his future to the club too.
The former Roma goalkeeper has a contract that runs until 2026, with an option in place for a further year. Alisson plans to stay at least that long.
“I want to honour my contract and finish my contract here or make a new one,” said Alisson. “Why stay?
I am really happy here. My family is happy.
I never got to the point where I was talking about wages. It was just interest, but when you hear about the numbers the other players (in Saudi Arabia) are getting you are a little bit attracted.
That is normal. I never thought about leaving.
When the interest from Saudi came, I cannot close the door on a big deal. But my decision was always to stay and focus on the things we can achieve, this new beginning and this new start, and I am really excited about that.
