Elliott, 21, played under Carsley as England U21s won the European Championships last summer. The Kop midfielder came off the bench in the final as England beat Spain to win the trophy.
But Elliott is in no doubt that he would be able to handle what is one of the biggest jobs in the game. He said: “Lee is an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable guy.
He is ready to step up. There have been a lot of big clubs sniffing around him and that is credit to himself and his coaching.
“Whenever I step on the pitch for England I just have freedom to enjoy my football. I feel like he is ready.
They are conversations for them [at the FA].”
Elliott, who is here in the US with the Reds, missed out on the England senior squad for this summer’s tournament. The Kop forward wasn’t even included in Southgate’s initial 33-man squad while team-mates Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah were in that before being chopped when it was squeezed down to 26 for Germany.
Elliott was disappointed to not get a call up after an impressive season with Liverpool. He’s still yet to get a call-up to a senior squad.
He had to watch as former U21 team-mates Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and Anthony Gordon graduated to the senior squad over the last 12 months. Elliott said: “For me, it’s one of them.
Of course I want to be there but they have their certain ways and their players that they monitor and that they want to pick and that’s just what they do. At the same time I was disappointed I had a nice break.
