Conor Gallagher could have been lining up for Scotland in Munich in the Euro 2024 opener, but was not considered good enough. He laughed, reminiscing about how he wasn’t good enough to play for the England youth team at 15 or 16, and when he went to train with one of the Scotland teams, he wasn’t good enough for them either. Luckily, he managed to work his way back into the England youth set-up and stay in it.
Gallagher credits Mauricio Pochettino for his development on the elite stage. He feels he has come a long way this season and gives a lot of credit to Pochettino for the opportunity to show Chelsea what he could do, hoping for continued improvement. He also expressed excitement at the prospect of working with new club boss Enzo Maresca but expressed sadness about Pochettino leaving.
Gallagher’s Chelsea contract has only a year to run, and he has been linked with moves to Spurs and Aston Villa. However, he stated that he is focused on England and the tournament.
