Man Utd learns Europa League fate after UEFA warns of relegation – Mirror Online

The win secured their automatic qualification for Europe’s second-tier competition for the next season. They finished fifth in Ligue 1, but UEFA rules prohibit clubs owned by the same company from participating in the same European competition.

Consequently, they faced a potential relegation to the Europa Conference League. The UEFA’s Club Financial Control Board is expected to issue a ruling on the multi-club ownership matter.

It is likely that United will be permitted to play alongside Nice, under certain conditions. Additionally, the CFCB is anticipated to mandate that Nice be operated through a ‘blind trust’ approved by UEFA.

According to reports, the UEFA’s multi-club ownership rule may potentially undergo changes for future seasons. Although INEOS owns only 27.7 percent of United, Ratcliffe has been given control of the club’s football and business operations by the majority owners, the Glazer family.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe also purchased Nice in 2019 and owns Swiss Super League side Lausanne-Sport. The CFCB will allow City and Girona to retain their places in their respective competitions.

The scrutiny of the CFG links occurred due to the clubs’ transfer dealings this season, but both teams have been cleared to participate. Finally, the CFCB is reportedly due to make a ruling on the matter on Monday, signaling a potentially pivotal decision for the affected clubs.
