After her first birthday, Siena began experiencing recurring health problems. Jack Wilshere described how they initially didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation but noticed that after exercise, Siena would have a coughing fit.
While on a family holiday in Cyprus, a doctor detected a heart murmur and advised them to take Siena to see a cardiologist. A subsequent diagnosis revealed that Siena had a serious heart condition and required surgery.
The news left the family devastated and worried about the potential worst-case scenario. Siena underwent a five-hour operation in February after being diagnosed with a hole in her heart.
The night before the surgery, the family was filled with nerves, and the experience was described as a blur. Fortunately, Siena’s successful operation brought immense relief to the family, and she is now healthy and happy.
Despite the challenges they faced, the family is proud of Siena for her bravery through the difficult journey. As a result of their experience, both Jack Wilshere and his wife have become ambassadors for the British Heart Foundation to raise awareness and support children and parents dealing with heart issues.
They emphasized the importance of research in keeping children’s hearts beating and expressed their gratitude for having Siena with them today. The family’s story sheds light on the impact of congenital heart defects and the necessity for support and awareness in the field.
By working with the British Heart Foundation, they hope to help others who may find themselves in similar situations.
