Greenwood spent the 2023/24 season on loan with Getafe and United are now hoping to seal a permanent move in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old made an impression at Getafe, contributing 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions and there has been plenty of interest in his services.
“Let’s play that final on Saturday. Of course we do have our plans for the next season and of course we discuss many scenarios, but nothing for today.
Let’s focus, let’s anticipate that match on Saturday and then we’ll see how we move on.” When asked if Greenwood is a player that Dortmund admire, Kehl said: “I don’t want to talk about that now.”
United will explore all options for Greenwood and, ideally, would like to fetch a fee close to £40million. The club decided to loan out Greenwood last summer following an internal review into his situation.
Greenwood was arrested in October 2022 and was subsequently charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Those charges were dropped in February 2023 by the Crown Prosecution Service, but United decided he wouldn’t play another game for the club.
The young striker was loaned to Getafe, where he has rekindled his career and was recently named the Spanish side’s player of the season. “It feels amazing to win this kind of award but I wouldn’t be able to get this kind of achievement if it wasn’t for my team-mates and the coaching staff,” he said.
Thank you for making me feel welcome and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club.
A bitter-sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.” *Join our new WhatsApp community* *and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
