The text can be divided into three logical paragraphs. I will split it accordingly:
Paragraph 1:
“He came over and he didn’t seem very happy right from the start.
And then he replied saying ‘definitely,’ and then you challenged him didn’t you?” Shearer replied: “Yeah.
He’s entitled to have a pop back because he’s been criticised at times and I think rightly so, because his team have been miles off it. They’ve been poor.
They’ve had a disastrous season in terms of the league. I don’t think any Man Utd fan would argue that.
To finish eighth, to finish with the number of goals they’ve conceded, shots against, it’s embarrassing. So for all of those things we’ve had to criticise them this season.
If we didn’t we wouldn’t be doing our job. But he’s entitled to have the hump with people who he feels are being unfair, but I felt I was well within my rights [to say what I said].”
Paragraph 2:
During the post-cup final interview, a visibly annoyed Ten Hag accused Lineker and Shearer of “hammering” players and managers, having taken issue with the tone of their questions, and even told them to “calm down”. “You are very good here in England to push players and managers very high, and then you hammer them when they have one or two bad performances,” Ten Hag told them.
“I think you should be more calm”. One fan on X wrote: “I thought the line of questioning by Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer to Erik ten Hag was disrespectful and wrong.
Irrespective of his future, he’s just won the FA Cup. Focus on the accomplishment.
Instead, this was an ambush. He’s right to fight back.”
Paragraph 3:
Another said: “Lineker and Shearer going in on Ten Hag, to his face, after the man has just won an FA Cup. Weirdly combative interview.
That said, their performance in the FA Cup final was, from top to bottom, absolutely fantastic. Jeremy Doku grabbed a late goal for City with three minutes left on the clock, but United held on for the win to land their second piece of major silverware in as many years under Ten Hag.
Prior to the game, reports emerged that the club were preparing to part ways with the Dutchman, regardless of the result at Wembley. But with a large chunk of United’s gloom now lifted, a U-turn could be on the cards.
