Promoting promising youth players was always a key element of the Klopp regime. Slot has plenty of these players at his disposal. New bosses typically want to add their own players to the team.
Slot is sure to have his eye on the transfer market, working with Liverpool’s team behind the team led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes. At such a tender age, it would be no surprise to see Slot introduced slowly at Liverpool. He could possibly alternate right-sided center-back duty with Quansah and Konate.
He would be an exciting addition and could learn from playing alongside Virgil van Dijk. It is also possible that Liverpool could bring in a left-sided center-back such as Goncalo Inacio to provide cover for Van Dijk. Wataru Endo is the closest thing Liverpool have to a pure No.6 in the squad.
Players like Alexis Mac Allister and Joe Gomez have been used in that position in the past season. Liverpool have long been linked with Teun Koopmeiners, a teammate of Ederson at Atalanta who played for Slot at AZ Alkmaar. However, it is possible that the 6ft Brazilian Ederson may be a better fit for the team.
Like all elite coaches, Slot won’t think in terms of having a ‘dream’ or ‘best’ XI. With just a couple of shrewd additions, he can ensure that the squad Klopp has left him delivers on its promise.
