After returning to the dressing room, manager Erik ten Hag was soaked in champagne by Lisandro Martinez as the rest of the United players cheered and posed for photos alongside the trophy. In a clip from the speech, Scott McTominay can be heard yelling: “Bruuuno.”
To which Ten Hag then responds: “Hey Scott, Bruno asked me if I want to speak. Maguire also shared a snap alongside McTominay and Hojlund, with the caption: “Who’s partying?”
Hojlund was also filmed dancing to ABBA, with the players joined by their families and a few celebrities. Victor Lindelof’s wife Maja also shared a video of the couple singing along to Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions’.
It was a particularly big day for Ten Hag, with the build-up to the match dominated by speculation over his future. “I don’t think about this,” he insisted.
“I am in a project. We are exactly where we want to be.
We are constructing a team. When I took over it was a mess.
The team is developing and winning. It is about winning trophies.
The team plays to an identity. You need a strong squad.
You need players available and there is a lot of work to do. The team is progressing and we are winning trophies.
Two trophies in two years is not bad. I am not satisfied.
If they don’t want me any more I will go [somewhere else] to win trophies because that is what I do in my whole career.” *Join our new WhatsApp community* *and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
