In the away end, 1,800 supporters were present during a recent football match. Videos circulating on social media showed one fan mimicking a plane and mouthing “Munich” at home fans. The club has condemned this behavior and stated that police action will be taken. A statement issued on Saturday expressed strong condemnation for such actions, with sanctions in place for those found guilty.
The football authorities, supporter groups, and law enforcement organizations are working together to crack down on fans who engage in this type of abusive behavior. The club had marked the 66th anniversary of a tragic event in February, remembering the eight Busby Babes who lost their lives in a plane crash. This occurred when the team was returning from a European Cup tie in Belgrade, and the crash took place after a refuelling stop in Bavaria. In total, twenty-three people, including eight journalists, died in the accident, but the team’s manager, Matt Busby, recovered from serious injuries to eventually lead a team that became European champions a decade later.
