Cody Gakpo has scored 21 goals in 75 appearances since his transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Liverpool for £35 million. Despite this, the 24-year-old has struggled to secure a regular position in the team under manager Klopp over the past 18 months.

Klopp has occasionally deployed Gakpo in midfield, a move that has reportedly impacted Gakpo’s performance. Klopp acknowledged his role in Gakpo’s struggles, stating that playing him in a different position had affected his form.

Despite this, Klopp indicated that Gakpo’s versatility could benefit him in the long term. Klopp emphasized Gakpo’s strengths as a player, highlighting his aerial threat, technical abilities, and finishing skills.

He also mentioned that although the current season might not be Gakpo’s best, the team recognizes his talent and value.
