Chelsea’s masterstroke with Cole Palmer was a big loss for Arsenal – John Cross – Mirror Online.

Mikel Arteta has returned to Manchester City to strengthen his squad, but Cole Palmer slipped through their fingers. Palmer, who has scored 20 goals in the Premier League this season, could potentially face off against Arsenal if he is fit.

Chelsea, known for their lavish spending, acquired Palmer with great success. Despite other clubs offering £20m for Palmer last summer, Chelsea swooped in and secured him, possibly paying a premium in the process.

Palmer’s playing style would have fit well into Arsenal’s system, as an attacking midfielder with a keen eye for goal. Meanwhile, Jesus and Zinchenko have made significant contributions to Arsenal since joining two years ago.

When Arsenal showed interest in Joao Cancelo, City made it clear they wouldn’t allow him to join the Emirates exodus. Guardiola, City’s manager, has a lenient approach to player departures, allowing those who wish to leave to do so.

He revealed that Palmer had been eager to depart for two years due to frustration. Despite this, it remains uncertain if Palmer would have received as much playing time at a different club.

Palmer has excelled at Chelsea, becoming a prominent figure and displaying qualities worthy of a spot in England’s Euros squad. The right club at the right time can maximize a player’s potential.

Additionally, Arsenal may seek to bolster their left-back options, although it is unlikely that Jesus or Zinchenko will be displaced. Jesus and Zinchenko have undoubtedly contributed to Arsenal’s ascent, potentially influencing City’s decision to prevent Palmer from joining the Gunners.
