The European Performance Score is calculated by dividing the total coefficient points attained by clubs from one league by the number of representatives from that competition. Currently, Italy leads the rankings with an average of 17.714 points. Germany follows in second place with 16.357, and England closely behind with 16.250.
The Premier League still has the potential to achieve the highest total, but recent Thursday’s results have posed a challenge. With the latest results, Germany holds onto their second position with a score of 16.785, just ahead of England’s 16.750. Thus, if things remain unchanged, the additional Champions League spots would go to fifth-placed Serie A side Roma and fifth-placed Bundesliga side Dortmund.
The fate of other clubs in Europe also hangs in the balance, affecting their country’s coefficient. This applies to Aston Villa, currently holding the fifth position in the Premier League. Additionally, Unai Emery’s side, competing outside the Premier League’s top four spots, hold a narrow first-leg advantage over French side Lille.
Ollie Watkins and John McGinn put them two goals ahead, only for Bafode Diakite to pull one back.
