Former Liverpool player Glen Johnson believes that Darwin Nunez, the current Liverpool striker, deserves to win the PFA Player of the Year award. Nunez has already exceeded his goal tally from last season, scoring 18 times across all competitions and providing 13 assists. Johnson expressed his preference for Nunez as a surprise choice, highlighting his impact as a striker.
However, he emphasized that Liverpool doesn’t need to rely on a single player and should not build the team around any individual. Johnson asserted that while Nunez is a top striker who can significantly contribute to the team, Liverpool is not a one-man band and should not be dependent on any single player. He emphasized Nunez’s consistent goal threat and stated that although Liverpool doesn’t need to build a team around him, having Nunez in the team is essential due to his goal-scoring abilities.
In addition to his goal-scoring prowess, Johnson highlighted Nunez’s capacity to influence the team’s performance, even during periods when he is not scoring. He emphasized that Nunez’s current form exemplifies his goal-scoring potential and underlined the importance of having him in the team while emphasizing that Liverpool’s success is not solely reliant on him.
