Kobbie Mainoo apologizes for celebrating after scoring for Man Utd against Liverpool – Mirror Online

The Red Devils were dominated in the opening 45 minutes of the match and went without recording a shot as Liverpool took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. The opening 20 minutes of the second period saw a complete turnaround and jubilation when Mainoo’s effort hit the net.

The newly capped England international was celebrating before most, admitting that it was an undeniably big moment for him but he felt unnecessarily apologetic, saying, “Yeah, it felt good so got ahead of myself. Sorry.”

He also expressed his disbelief and pride in scoring his first professional goal at Old Trafford in such a significant fixture, but was unable to be too happy as his team didn’t walk away with all three points. Mo Salah’s 84th-minute penalty denied United the victory after Wan-Bissaka brought down Harvey Elliott inside the area to provide the Egyptian with a chance from the spot.

Mainoo believes that his side needs to address the small mistakes that have been costing the team dearly, as it was the third game in a row that they dropped points from a winning position late on. While many may view a draw against title-challengers Liverpool as a positive result, Mainoo couldn’t help but express his disappointment, stating, “Disappointed [with only a point], to be honest, because I feel like second half we performed really well.

We picked it up and the lads worked really, really hard. It was minor mistakes that in the end were major.

Need ironing out and we can win the game.”
